Travel Plan

Freshfields  Nursery is working in partnership with the local community and County Council to ensure our children can travel to and from Clifford Forge House  safely.

We will strive to raise awareness of travel safety issues by ensuring children and parents are aware of the need for road safety around the nursery.

The Travel Plan will aim to reduce congestion around the nursery and decrease the number of cars travelling to and from the nursery day to day. This will enable our nursery to be a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for the whole community.

The Plan presents a transport strategy for positively influencing staff and parent's travel patterns to and from the nursery in order to assist in the delivery of sustainable transport, and is intended to encourage sustainability of the development

Additionally, to further reduce car travel, mini buses owned by the school are used to provide  dedicated drop off and pick up services within Stratford Town at  convenient locations. At present these are at Morrisons car park and the Trinity Mead estate. These locations will enable interchange with a number of public transport services for those parents and staff not having access to a car, and good pedestrian access for parents and staff living within Stratford town centre.

By encouraging the use of the minibus service to the Nursery, we hope to make life easier for our parents, and at the same time help the environment. Emphasis will also be placed on the benefits of car sharing.

When the Minibus service operates the following safety initiatives are in place:

  • Children escorted to and from mini-bus supervised across car park
  • All vehicle confirm to safety standards
  • Specific spaces are allocated to minibuses close to the premises;
  • Road safety education and training is provided to staff and children;
  • All Minibuses fitted with approved child seats.
                        OBJECTIVES OF THE TRAVEL PLAN AND TARGETS

 The aims and objectives of the travel plan for Freshfields Nursery School are:

  • To increase safety and improve the environment around Forge House Nursery School
  • To improve the awareness of travel issues, and the impact of traffic on the environment for parents, children and the community.
  • To see a reduction in the amount of traffic travelling to and from school.
  • To look at alternative solutions to improving traffic conditions and in turn improve the local environment, by reducing air pollution.
  • To promote the effects of healthy living linked to decreased car use.
  • To increase the number of people using alternative transport to the car, for the school journey.
  • To promote travel incentives to encourage pupils to use alternative forms of transport other than the car.
